Intended for penetration tests and simulated attacks, the “Kali Linux” system, also known as “hacker Linux”, was released in version 2019.1. There are no revolutionary changes in the system itself, but it is worth being interested in the version 5.0 of the Metasploit tool. This is the first major release of this program since 2011, when Metasploit 4.0 was released.
Metasploit is a powerful framework for preparing and conducting automated security and training tests, simulating attacks, using a huge database of exploits and known attacks. Version 5.0 was released in January 2019. There are plenty of new products – from the new database, through the new API of automation and optimization of operation, to the changed publishing cycle.
Kali Linux 2019.1 received the kernel 4.19.13, lots of new packages from current Debian and minor fixes. The most important are updated offensive security tools. The new Kali Linux introduces, among others, updated packages for theHarvester, used to collect data about employees of the company’s server addresses and open ports from various sources (SHODAN, PGP key databases, e-mail addresses, search engines and others). You can find the full list of changes in the bugtracker.
The release of Kali Linux for ARM processors is again available for Banana Pi and Banana Pro computers, with kernel 4.19. Images for Raspberry Pi have been simplified so that they can be easily installed. Images for PC and for virtual machines (VirtualBox and VMWare) are available without any changes. All of them can be found on the Kali Linux website:
